Grant Making – Guidelines
Our Mission and Purpose
Charter Charitable Foundation recognizes grant making as the most visible and important function for non-profit organizations of our type. The Foundation grant program is designed to strengthen the effectiveness of these non-profit organizations and to improve the quality of life in New England communities.
Our Foundation will consider only applications and proposals from qualified tax-exempt organizations with a recognized 501(c)(3) Internal Revenue status. Grants will be made to non-profit organizations that are public charities as defined by the Internal Revenue Code, 509(a)(1),(2) or(3). The Foundation does not normally support the following endeavors:
- Start-up organizations, individuals, or public school systems without 501(C)3 status
- Grants for operating assistance, general scholarships and corporate membership in most cases
- Private non-operating foundations, political campaigns and lobbying groups
- Foreign charities that are not registered with the IRS in the United States
